Great period evocation and engaging story lines. Though the dialogue may be a bit modern. Will there be another series? And not just because of the nobility's lovely parties, clothes and jewellery. Rather because the world was changing for the better, in science, cars, medicine, education, the arts, the women's movement, sea side holidays, workers' rights etc etc. Exclude WW1 of course.

Do you think the Downton Abbey characters would have known what was happening in their world?

Re: A Decade of Downton Abbey

I can't believe it's been 10 years. She sounds like she would have been a hoot to hang out with, and she got to live her dream while doing some good. Played the recording (oh my!!) and my pet starling seemed to enjoy it. The Presidents Club in London, a charity fundraising organisation, has shut down this week (Jan 2018) because young women were groped and molested by attendees at an all-male fundraising dinner for top business figures.

What a shame :( Stanford White's architecture was deservedly admired.

Re: Edwardian FAQs

I have been trying to find an article about the day to day life and routines of the upstairs individuals. I can think of a number of reasons, all dodgy:
1. Foote was a doctor and therefore accurate; Craddock was not a doctor and her material would therefore be scientifically inaccurate.
2. Craddock was a student of religious eroticism and a priestess of the Church of Yoga.
3. Foote was male and poor old Craddock was female.

Mind you, in the end Foote was also (mildly) punished. He was later convicted under the Comstock Act and forced to delete all birth control information from his book.

Re: Vintage Review: The Lightning Conductor

A complete bibliography of Alice Williamson's novels is appended to my recent biography entitled "Alice Muriel Williamson: The Secret History of an American-English Author" (2016).

Re: The Court Presentation

I hope this is the correct forum to ask this question. It was a fascinating and illuminating portrait of not just California and US history, but immigration history, and race, as well as what Chinese immigrants and Chinese Americans encountered in this country. Now I must move this book up my TBR pile!

Re: The Gilded Age Craze for the Chafing Dish

Good to know!
